One of the things that I haven't missed since my surgery is the cravings. When they took 2/3 of my stomach they took the part that causes the cravings. Mind you, those cravings come back as your body starts to heal and return to normal (or as normal as it will get). The surgeon warned me...and I'm dealing with those emotions now 7 months post surgery. The cravings have slowly been creeping back in. It's something that I'm going to have to deal with for the rest of my life. The difference this time is that I physically can't eat the way I used to. If I intake to much sugar or too many carbs, I get physically ill and it's not worth the misery. I've had a few week moments and I've paid the price. Anyone considering this surgery or anyone that thinks they know what it entails...you don't. It's the most difficult thing that I've ever had to go through or overcome. Your brain isn't transplanted so your emotions and habits don't change. You are still you. It's how you approach all of it that makes the difference. It's a daily struggle and sometimes you fall. It's OK. You are not a horrible person or a failure just because you eat something that you shouldn't. Even if you are dieting on your own and haven't had the surgery, these are things that you will have to deal with, just in a different way.
What's terrifying are the thoughts that pop into your head, the negative self-talk that we are all guilty of. That will knock you down quicker then anything. Just remember that you aren't perfect and you are only human...it's OK! I repeat...it's OK! That is my mantra these days.
All of this being said, I DON'T regret one second of the process. It has changed my life for the better and I am ecstatic. The changes that have occurred and the things that I have been able to accomoplish since surgery are amazing. I am absolutely over the moon. The rest of it will all fall into place and I will learn to take each wave in stride. I am so happy and so proud of myself. #blessed
Product alert: I love chips and dip! It's one of my favorite snacks. However, that's not something I can eat anymore. I can still have the dip part, but not the chips. So I found an amazing product that helps me feed that craving and I'm sticking within my eating plan. They are called Whisps. It's cheese baked into a little crunchy round disc of goodness. They are strong so you only need a handful, but they are so good. You can find them on the Amazon or Bariatric Pal Website, or at Walmart and Costco (and probably other places as well). They are a little expensive, but totally worth it to me.
Have a wonderful week!!
Debbie
